Garden Map

We began collecting information about pollinator gardens planted or being planted in the Peterborough area in March of 2017.  In August a couple of members began adding gardens that existed in public spaces such schools or parks.

Personal information remains in our database and is not shown on the map.  The site is labelled as private and only lists whether it is existing or new.  We do plan to use emails to provide information relevant to pollinator gardens and notice of events.  A future project will involve a rough analysis of the species data in the registration garden descriptions to ascertain what seems to do well here and if there are seasonal lacks.
We do provide more information on gardens in public spaces such as church grounds, parks and schools: a public name and a description of where the garden is in the space.  We hope to develop walking tours and study guides based on these spaces in the future.

What is a “Front Yard” Survey?

Two project workers with SUN, one person from the neighborhood and one person from Peterborough Pollinators embarked on a blitz beginning Sept 18, 2018 to walk every street in the East City/Curtis Creek neighborhood and record the presence of species that support pollenators in front yards. We used a Kobotoolbox digital form on phones and tablets to collect street addresses and check off species as found.  Results were, of course, skewed to late summer/fall species and a good number of trees that feed bees in the spring. But by Oct 5, 2018, all of the streets had been walked and 132 spaces described. A draft map of neighborhood was produced for the Pulse Pop-up on Euclid St on Oct 14th.
